The Music Empowers Foundation provides funding to nonprofit organisations which offer engaging and innovative music instruction to children in communities where music education either does not exist or is underdeveloped.
It also carries out advocacy and has a Facebook page, Your Brain on Music Education, which summarises research into the effects of music on the brain, particularly relating to young people.
It has funded YouthBEAT, a research and evaluation project and a partnership between Berklee College of Music and Tufts University, headed by Dr. Kathleen Camara an associate professor of child development in Tufts’ School of Arts and Sciences. The research aims to scientifically measure the intellectual, social, and academic benefits of musical education for young people.
